Gender Hacking. Redesigning the Perception of Everyday Things
From pink shavers and deodorants with a metallic look to soups with a tractor theme for boys and a princess theme for girls, many everyday products are designed and marketed differently for men and women. Following a brief introduction to the subject we will discuss the form, function, materiality and branding of everyday products and examine their underlying role models and gender identities. Applying hacking strategies we will transform the design of products in a gender-sensitive way and look at the contribution design can make in terms of gender awareness and societal change.
